It is based upon the belief that Jerusalem was destroyed in 607 B.C., which is 20 years earlier than the year agreed upon by reputable historians.
It is based upon a prophecy in Daniel about Babylonian king Nechadnezzar. In the prophecy, that pagan king was to lose his throne and sanity for "seven times." At the end of seven years Nebuchadnezzar was restored to his throne in Babylon. Jehovah's Witnesses claim that this relates to God's kingdom disappearing from this earth for 2,520 solar years, from 607 B.C. to 1914 A.D. Those 2,520 years are arrived at by changing each of the seven years of Nebuchadnezzar's insanity to 360 years. Seven times 360 equals 2,520. Strangely, Jehovah's Witnesses use the LUNAR year measurement to arrive at 360 years, but they use the SOLAR year measurement when counting from 607 B.C. to 1914 A.D.!
The message of Jehovah's Witnesses is based upon their belief that Jesus took kingdom power in heaven almost 100 years ago. In all these past many years there is no observable evidence that this good king sitting upon Jehovah's throne has done a single thing to improve world conditions. The Witnesses themselves claim that conditions are getting worse and worse.
Their message is based upon their belief that the loving God will very soon destroy billions of people due to their rejection of the above described so-called "good news of the Kingdom," even though an ever-growing number of people throughout the world have never heard it. In fact, most people who have been visited by Jehovah's Witnesses have no idea what the Witnesses mean by "the good news about God's Kingdom." Jehovah’s Witnesses are known more for their refusal to take blood transfusions than for the message they preach and distribute.
